Green Sanctuary Movie: Wasteland - May 18, 7:30pm

Filmed over nearly three years, Wasteland follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil in the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of "catadores" -- self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz's initial objective was to "paint" the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring charaters as they recreate photoraphic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Bring a snack to share!

Impact of Clergy Sexual Abuse on Congregations

Each year a Unitarian Universalist minister is asked to address their UU colleagues at the Professional Ministry Days that preceed General Assembly.  This tradition began in the early 1800's.  Last year in Charlotte, the Rev. Dr. Deb Pope-Lance was invited to speak and provide the 191st address.  She is a therapist and minister who has consulted with numerous congregations, including ours, following clergy sexual misconduct.  Her Berry Street address to the UU ministers gathered focused on this topic and was titled, "Whence We Come and How, and Whither.”  If you'd like to learn more about the impact of clergy sexual abuse on congregations, including how our congregation might have been impacted, please read the essay here.
